We have funded and started work with National AIDS Trust (NAT) and BritainThinks on a national survey to understand public knowledge and attitudes towards HIV.
National AIDS Trust are leading the survey and will be working together with people living with HIV, organisations who work with people living with HIV and the other UK Fast-Track Cities to shape this.
This will build on previous national surveys.
Kat Smithson, Director of Policy at National AIDS Trust said, “Since 2000, we have run a survey on knowledge and attitudes on HIV among the UK general public. This survey has shed light on how we, as a society, respond to HIV and whether attitudes have evolved to keep pace with science.
“This year we are reviewing the approach, including survey questions, to make sure the work delivers maximum value for all. As part of this, we would like to draw on expertise and involve key stakeholders.”
In January 2021, National AIDS Trust and BritainThinks are holding online stakeholder roundtables with experts and leaders in HIV and related issues. These events will discuss recent changes to the landscape surrounding HIV and the impact of these changes. The roundtables and two focus groups with members of the public will help shape the public knowledge and attitudes polling questions.
The polling itself will run in February/March and will include a boosted sample of 1,000 participants in London. Focus groups will then explore some of the key findings in detail. We hope to be able to publish the findings in April 2021.
