HIV Confident Charter Mark

Tackling HIV stigma is central to achieving London’s goals of zero new HIV transmissions, zero preventable deaths and 100 percent of people living well with HIV by 2030. To tackle place-based HIV stigma we are working in partnership with the National AIDS Trust and Positively UK, who we are funding £360k from 2023-26 to deliver the HIV Confident Charter Mark.

HIV Confident accreditation will ensure that people living with HIV who work in or access services from a participating organisation can expect that they are up to date about the medical facts in relation to HIV today and will respond sensitively to the needs and challenges experienced by people living with HIV.

To achieve this, we are delivering a package of policy resources, stigma reporting mechanisms, e-learning modules and face to face training that will tackle stigma and discrimination in both public and private sector services in London.

The HIV Confident website is enhancing engagement with the programme and includes information about stigma reporting and HIV Confident Champions within member organisations. The website also includes a members’ area with staff engagement tools, policy and communications toolkits, eLearning support and recognition forms.

There are currently 13 NHS Trusts, 28 GP practices, three Local Authority, and two corporate organisations participating in the charter, with many more registered for future waves. We are particularly focusing on developing the programme for use in adult social care in 2025, as well as expanding beyond London.

Strong partnership working with the HIV Ambassadors programme provides lived experience elements of the programme.
