UK and Ireland Fast-Track Cities

CARDIFF & VALE

Fast-Track Cities Cardiff and Vale is the first Fast-Track Cities initiative in Wales. Launched in November 2019 with a research report into current needs. Our three priorities are better data, better access to testing and stigma reduction. Currently we are researching service user opinions on future needs.

Fast-Track Cities Cardiff and Vale Steering Group and supporters include clinicians and the Health Board, local politicians, public health, researchers, BAME and LGBT+ key community groups and the Terrance Higgins Trust (the only HIV NGO left in Wales). Chaired by Pride Cymru, we have a short-term development worker and are currently seeking funding.

Cardiff and Vale are already working on testing campaigns and access for marginalised communities, with all Welsh HIV testing going postal during the COVID-19 pandemic – and we have a pilot on self-testing lined up for Autumn 2020. We aim to act as a pilot Fast-Track City for other cities and Health Boards in Wales.

We have a website www.fasttrackcardiff.wales and a lively social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Given the dearth of any HIV prevention campaigns in Wales in recent years, we are having a substantial impact on awareness just from these.
